Winter Month, blah...
Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. I just wanted to crawl under the covers for December, January, and most of February. We've been dealing with colds and teething. The weather is starting to get warmer and the wind is kicking up. I am not a big fan of the wind, but here in the southwest, that is the sign spring is here. So WELCOME BACK wind! Anyway, here are some pictures of what we have been doing the last few months.

Music Tames the Wild Beast
For the past month, night time has become a war zone out our house. Every two hours there is a battle with Super Y as he wakes up crying refusing to go back to sleep on his own. I get up nurse him, rock him until he is asleep, put him down in his crib and then he wakes up to start the whole process over again.
Two weeks ago, the kids and I headed down to El Paso to visit with Auntie P and Cousin M. I shared a room with Spaghetti and Super Y. We girls slept in the bed and Super Y in the playpen. True to form, Super Y was up every two hours, but I just ended up with him in the bed.
We got home and battled a cold, with every two hours waking up. I tried, unsuccessfully, to keep him out of our bed b/c then the one hour I was sleeping I wouldn't get. I was beginning to wonder if this kid was destined to share our bed until he was 18. During the day it was also getting really bad, he wanted me to hold him all the time. Now I love cuddle time with my kids, but sometimes I need to do the dishes or laundry, at least enough to keep the house semi-livable.
We went to a Mommy and Me play date this past Thursday, missing half of it by going to the wrong address. The mommy hosting ended up putting her son down for a nap toward the end of the play date. She put some classical music on, he was a little overly tired so he cried a while. However, he conked out eventually.
I went home thinking why haven't I thought to try music. Super Y has always been pretty easy to put to sleep, so I never had to try any tricks with him like I did with Spaghetti. I had forgotten that sometimes coaxing was involved with getting kids to go to sleep, at least I had forgotten this with him.
So I was searching out house for what I could use. We had a little electronic music/noise maker that come with the playpen. So I dug up some batteries and tried it at naptime on Friday. A little rocky as I put him down because of course he popped up the second I set him down. He finally quieted down and went to sleep for longer than an hour. That night, my husband ended up falling asleep our in the living room with him, so I couldn't test my night time theory that this might work.
Saturday naptime was easy again thanks to the music. Night, Super Y woke up at 10, I nursed him put him to bed with music. He woke up at 1am, I just turned the music on and he fell back asleep no picking up or holding required. Tonight as I put him down for bed, he popped up again and did a half hearted cry and just looked at me. I turned on his music... no sound from him! Thank you mommy play date host!
